Day 18 - Mobridge, SD to Groton, SD - 122 miles

Sunflowers
Not to be outdone by yesterday’s winds, today’s winds provided me a nice little push from behind and helped me go the second furthest distance I’ve ever gone. Fortunately, these winds have come at the right time and the day’s efforts put me less than 100 miles to the Minnesota border where the welcome sight of company would be waiting.

The ride was quite pleasant and featured more rolling farmlands as well as a magical ride through ‘far as the eyes can see’ sunflower fields. It was particularly cool at one point to be riding south through the middle of one field and to see every one of the yellow, Frisbee sized flowers to my right staring at me and every flower to the left ‘looking’ the other way.

Making great time and still having plenty of daylight left to cover the last twenty miles or so, I treated myself to the rare treat of actually sitting down for dinner. An all-you-can eat pizza buffet seemed a nice way to celebrate not eating while standing up in a gas station. All was great, but I am still trying to figure out how they had a 20 item salad bar with only one or two vegetables on it. Hmmm.

Hello Michael!
I hope your ride is going great! I was the runner that you rode beside while outside Selby, SD. I hope you found your pancakes, you were craving some while talking to me.
I went to Aberdeen later after I left you to your riding and saw you twice, once while I was driving to Aberdeen and another time when I was in Aberdeen. I hope you progress has continued.
Thanks for keeping me company on my long run!

Thanks for the note Kim. Too funny that you kept running into me - I guess I'm easy to spot. Good luck with the new school year and with your fall half-marathon!
