Day 12 - Harlowton, MT to past Roundup, MT - 84 miles

Here's where I woke up - inside the old Harlowton train depot

For whatever reason (probably less of a tailwind and slightly tired legs), today’s miles did not pass as quickly as yesterday’s. I made it through Ryegate and onto Roundup where, though there were still a few hours of daylight left, I contemplated camping after only 70 miles ridden.

As I was checking out the camping area, four bikers pulled in. Having grown accustomed to seeing lots of these folks passing in either direction, I knew they were coming back from the big bike rally in Sturgis, SD. Like the camaraderie between cyclists, I think there is something similar between bikers and cyclists. They are working a lot harder than someone driving a car – we’re working a lot harder than someone driving a car. They really appreciate overpasses and gas stations when it’s hailing – we really appreciate overpasses and gas stations when it’s hailing. They wear tough leather outfits– we wear…uh…spandex and Lycra. But you get the point. Anyway, they told me about the long, open road (100+ miles to the next real town) and I decided to try and get a few more miles in before nightfall (see shadow photos indicating late evening riding). I pulled off the road into some river access area which also turned out to be the mosquitoiest spot this side of the boundary waters. Inside the tent now – hope that holds ‘em off until I have to pack up in the morning.

You mean to say that you're not wearing leather?

Well sure, but not when I ride.
